Gross WPM = (characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes
Net WPM = gross WPM − (uncorrected errors ÷ minutes)
CPM = WPM × 5
KPH = WPM × 5 × 60

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate WPM?

Divide the number of characters typed (including spaces) by 5 to get words, then divide by the number of minutes. For net WPM, subtract uncorrected errors per minute.

How do I convert WPM to KPH?

Multiply WPM by 5 to get keystrokes per minute, then by 60. For example, 40 WPM is about 12,000 keystrokes per hour.
